“Every mistake in my life was never a mistake. It was always leading me here.”

The Story
My name is Mark Walsham. I grew up in rural New Zealand — a place where you didn't talk about what was going on inside. You just got on with it. Until you couldn't anymore.
A drink driving accident that left my best friend catastrophically injured. Prison. Addiction. Years of running from the pain I'd caused. Depression so heavy I couldn't see a way forward.
“I wasn't broken. I was being rebuilt — I just didn't know it yet.”
Today I'm a father of three, based in Albury, NSW. Purpose Through Pain isn't a brand. It's what happened when I stopped running.

How Mark Works
Speaking, coaching, and The Gathering. Whether it's a room of five hundred, a conversation between two men, or a fire on the Murray — the work is the same: telling the truth, and making it safe for someone else to do it too.
Raw, real, and without a script. Keynotes and workshops for schools, workplaces, sporting clubs and road safety events.
Two men in a conversation — one who has been to the bottom and back, and one who's ready to do the work. First call is free.
An overnight men's retreat on the Murray. A small group, a fire, and the space to be honest. Plus weekly and monthly community walks.
What's Coming Up
A family-friendly walk once a month. Kids, prams, dogs, grandparents — bring whoever.
July 2026
A fire, a river, and a group of men who stopped performing. This is what the weekend actually looks like.

Completed · June 2026
In 2024, 2,529 Australian males were lost to suicide. Mark set out — with the community behind him — to run 2,529km in their honour. Together, they ran straight past it, finishing on 27 June 2026 with Mark running 100km in 12 hours.
“Purpose Through Pain is what happened when I stopped running. This is me helping others stop too.”
